Zero Suit Samus Cosplay by xallurex Zero Suit Samus Cosplay by xallurex
This is me as Zero Suit Samus. I need to find pictures of my back. I love the design.

Everything was hand painted on with acrylic/fabric paint. Yes, those black lines. It took me close to ten hours.

The wig had to be styled. It was originally curly.

Umm. Oh! The gun is a blaster from Toys R Us, but I added some matboard to make the right shape. What else...

The boots. Okay, they are these heels I found in my mother's closet, not boots. They're like, heeled loafers? I dunno. They give the suit a fantastic shape. All I did was push them down the length of my costume and then cut holes in the soles of the suit. They were uncomfortable, but the rest of the suit was awesome!

I just got a blue nylon/lycra suit at a dance store online. Looks pretty badass. Can't wait to paint it! Could you tell me where you got your paint? :3 and did you paint the shoes too? Mine I found in my grandmother's closet but they're leather boots. Lol

I got my paint at AC Moore. Also, my shoes are actually shoved /through/ the suit, and a hole is cut in the sole of the suit for the heel to poke through. I painted the suit to look like boots c:

I've seen some Zero Suit cosplay before, but this is pretty damn good - out of the dozens I've seen attempt it, yours is within like the top 3 for accuracy. Very good job!

And my GF tried to do a Zero Suit cosplay herself using similiar footwear - she complained it was uncomfortable also LOL so I kinda feel for ya on that aspect. Why didn't you try a pair of boots? Was the cost savings alone, or were their other reasons? Just curious on that.

Thank you so much >3<!! It means a lot. I think I might wear again sometime. XD I've been too preoccupied with new costumes.

as for the boots/shoes, it was mostly cost, honestly. Also, I didn't want a big ridge poking through the suit from the top of the boots. Looking at ZSS pics, it doesn't look like her boots are separate. But next time, I might wear little socks or bandages or something too cushion it. It's a fun costume to wear :3

Your welcome - as a former cosplayer I know what honest compliments mean ;)

LOL if I was female I'd want to cosplay Samus myself ;) She's strong, cute and just simply kicks butt.

Yes, the boots are kind of an issue for a lot of people. But that is also part of what makes your cosplay so good - you tried to keep it simple yet accurate. You wouldn't believe(actually, you probably would LOL) how many cosplayers I've seen wear high heels, knee length boots and the like.

socks or gauze pads might help cushion your feet....have you considered using a pair of booties or something similiar in place of the heeled loafers?

I'm thinking about the gauze thing, or perhaps a pair of painted character shoes. I have some tan character shoes that are pretty comfy (I danced in them) that I can just paint to match the suit. Otherwise, I might just wrap my feet in gauze like you said :]

Thanks for the compliments/advice ^_^

And just out of curiosity, you said former cosplayer. Any reason why you stopped? Sorry if I'm prying XD

Your welcome for the advice.

You're not prying ;) As for why I stopped...well, my current job keeps me away from home for a few months at a time, so I don't have as much time as I used to for making costumes, props and the like. When I started my new job a few years ago, I decided to take a break from cosplay and I haven't had the ambition to get back into it yet, so I'm more of "on leave" as opposed to being truly a "former" cosplayer. Whether or not I get back into it I don't know yet.

I ordered a blue body suit, there are a ton on ebay under 'catsuit' or 'zentai.' Also, the paint is not that expensive, you can pick some fabric paint up at AC Moores or Michaels (Craft stores) for like, 5 bucks a container. Acrylic is a bit more expensive, so rather than get fine art acrylic, try to find the stuff labeled "craft acrylic paint," its a bit thinner (more watery) and cheaper! Hope that helps X3

Oh wow thank you SO much for your help! :D
I purchased a nice body suit off ebay, and I'm off to get the fabric paint.

I'm just worried about the paint chipping? Did it chip at all with your suit? Is yours more cotton/spandex or latex?

:iconxallurex:
xallurex Featured By Owner May 16, 2009  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
mine is cotton/spandex and it sunk into the fabric a bit. If you're worried about chipping, (on latex, spandex should be fine) I'd try the squeezy kind of fabric paint. 3d fabric paint, I think. I think that stuff is stretchy.

no problem XD
